  • V design done in partnership with Peugot and Renault. Engine named PVR 6 (Peugot, Volvo, Renault). This engine was used in the De Lorean sports car among others.

  • Aluminium block, crankshaft and connected rod made of forged vanadium
  • Electronic ignition with knock sensor
  • Self diagnosis system, from 1996 the OBD-II system is used
  • 4 valves per cylinder, 20 valves total
  • Firing order 1-2-4-5-3, number 1 piston on the timing belt side
  • Oil capacity with filter: 6.1 quarts (7.0 quarts on Turbo when oil cooler is drained)
  • B5254S is the non-Turbo version giving 168hp. This engine is fond on base models.
  • B5254T is a low pressure Turbo version giving 190hp. This engine is found on many models including the GLT and AWD.
  • 3 different fuel injection systems were installed depending on the year, model and market
  • Bosch LH Jet 3.2 fuel injection with EZ-129K ignition system

  • B5234T is the high pressure Turbo model giving 222hp. This engine is found on Turbo and T5 models.
  • B5234TR has the maximum boost limit increased for 7 seconds, from 9.6 lb/in to 10.9 lb/in.This give a power of 240hp on cars with automatic transmission and 250hp on cars with a standard manual transmission. This engine is found on T5R and R models.
  • 2 different fuel injection systems were installed depending on the year

Volvo D24 and D24T Engines

  • D24 diesel engine used on the Volvo 240 Diesel from 1981 to 1985, and Volvo 260 Diesel from 1980 to 1982.
  • D24T Turbo diesel engine used on the 760 Turbo Diesel from 1983 to 1985, 740 Turbo Diesel 1986.
  • Above are for the North American market only. The diesel engine is much more common in other markets.
