Sevenoaks to Stockholm and back (via Prague) in a Sauna- Link
18 August 2009
On August 27, 2009 two adventurers will undertake a 4000 mile journey from Sevenoaks in the South East of England to Stockholm in Sweden to raise funds and awareness for Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust (the largest brain tumour support charity in the UK). They plan to accomplish this audacious feat in an ancient Volvo 240 estate, clad in Scandinavian spruce to resemble a truly authentic Swedish sauna. Meanwhile, the adventures themselves will be clad in nothing but cotton towels.
Chris, Tom and the Volvo-Sauna hybrid will depart Sevenoaks on August 27 to complete the first leg of their epic journey as participants in the "Czech Wrecks" banger rally from Calais to Prague. From here – and on their lonesome – they’ll head to Sweden, the birthplace of their Volvo but hopefully not its final resting place. With a strong element of luck and a favourable wind they will return to Sevenoaks having crossed twelve countries over 14 days in their Scandinavian steamroller.
Born and bred in Sevenoaks and Tonbridge, Tom Sharrad and Chris Wilkinson both have personal reasons for choosing to support Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust. Chris’s mother was diagnosed with a Benign Dermoid Cyst seven years ago and made a full recovery following seven hours of major surgery. Tom himself suffered from a brain tumour at 18 months old and following surgery, made a full recovery.
Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust spends around £1m per year on top quality scientific and clinical research and is the leading charity dedicated to brain tumours in the UK. In addition the trust provides individualised, ongoing support for people who live with brain tumours and their families and friends.

TomTom admits Satnav device is infected with virus
It started with an email from a worried satnav user, Lloyd Reid of Trichromic LLP an IT consultant who knows his way around a computer and knows a virus when his AV software flags one up. The cause for his concern being a newly purchased TomTom GO 910 satnav unit that, once connected to his PC, immediately caused an anti-virus software alert. Not one, but two alerts in fact.

Official Volvo High Mileage Club Register
It's Here - Now
Volvo cars have long had a reputation for being able to achieve high mileages.
Owners of Volvo cars with over 150,000 miles can have their car entered into the official register after providing reasonable proof of the mileage of their car. A free sticker will be sent in return as well as the opportunity to purchase a special grille badge.
There are three classes:
- Gold Class for cars with more than 500,000 miles
- Silver Class for cars with over 300,000 miles
- Bronze Class for cars with over 150,000 miles
UPDATE: The Official Volvo High Mileage Register and badge purchase is now available to anyone anywhere in the world.
The current 'unofficial listing' will still continue for anyone to enter the mileages of their cars.
For both schemes go to the 'Menu' button at the top left and go to High Mileage Club.

Detachable Towbar Recalls
Volvo Car UK have passed this message on to me:
"You may have seen that Volvo Car Corporation have launched a new recall concerning Detachable Tow Bars. The problem we are experiencing is that these tow bars could potentially be fitted to 700/900 series, 850s, S/V40s, S/V90s, S/V/C70s, S80s and New V70s as an accessory fitment. This unfortunately means that we have no definitive list of the vehicles these have been fitted to. The recall has been launched in the UK in conjunction with Saab GB as they also have sold and fitted the affected tow bars. We have already placed notices in national newspapers and magazines, we are currently carrying out other ways of contacting customers but we feel that a good place to try to get Volvo drivers attention would be to have a notice on your web site. My question is, would you consider putting a message on your web site to help us contact as many potentially affected drivers as possible? "
Click HERE to see the notice from Volvo. It is in PDF format so you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to read it.
If this affects you then contact your local Volvo dealer.
Drive safely.
