Platform Introductions

  • Improved throttle management for 5 cylinder turbos. The Cross Country will be discernibly more responsive when the accelerator is depressed which enhance the level of driving pleasure. The function is designed in a way that the driving is smooth without sacrificing low speed performance.

Mk 25 Brake System

  • STC Improvements – improved engine intervention due to a more powerful processor and new algorithms
  • Traction Control in STC and TRACS has been improved by increasing the speed range of the system. It will regulate the system up to 75 MPH (previously 44 MPH) but has to enter the traction control mode at a speed lower than 25 MPH.
  • DSTC availability with AWD – Available Dec. 10th / W150 Production
  • Emergency Brake Assistance (EBA) – dramatically reduces stopping distances in panic situations. At these critical moments, there is sometimes the tendency to relax pressure off the brake pedal once ABS modulation occurs. EBA ensures that full braking power is applied.

Packages
As stated above, Cross Country packages have been revised to align more closely with the content and nomenclature of the rest of the Volvo lineup. The benefit of this rationalization is to provide product continuity between models and the enhancement of communication between the retailer and customer.

As such, two new packages have been developed using similar logic in content with the S60.

  • Premium Package: Consists of high customer demand features of Leather Upholstery, Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel, Simulated Wood Inlays, In-dash CD Player, Power Passenger Seat
  • Versatility Package: Consists of the 3rd Row Seat, Integrated Booster Cushion and Trash Bin.
    Note: New for MY02 is the integrated booster cushion for the 40/20/40 2nd row seat. As such, there will not be the option to obtain the 60/40 2nd row seat as in MY01. However, there is only one booster cushion (Driver's side, outboard position) on the Cross Country until Production W208 when two integrated cushions will be available. The price for the Integrated Booster Cushion for the Cross Country has been adjusted accordingly.

New Feature Introductions
DVD Volvo Navigation System

  • The Volvo Navigation System made its debut in the MY99 S80, and since it has been incorporated on most P2 vehicles. While a convenient and worthwhile option for many, improvements have been made to the CD-based system to improve cus-tomer satisfaction and ease of operation.
  • The Volvo Navigation System (VNS) is an electronic information and route guidance system that helps the driver find any destination under a variety of options (e.g. shortest route, fastest time, use of highways and toll roads). The system keeps track of the position of the vehicle using the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) system and automatically recalculates the route if the driver goes off the system’s plan.
  • The most significant improvement of VNS was the incorporation of DVD media. The previous generation VNS used CD-ROM media to store maps and data. The advantages of using DVD media are storage capacity and speed. CD-ROM based VNS would require 9 separate CDs to provide coverage in the continental United States, whereas with the DVD format, only one disc is necessary for the United States and Canada.
  • Route calculation, Data retrieval, and rerouting speeds are significantly enhanced versus the CD-ROM system.
  • The size of the VNS display has increased by 1", measuring 6.5 inches. This color, wide screen unit is situated at eye level so it can be read easily and quickly. When not is use the display hides discretely inside the center speaker on the dashboard.
  • In addition to the steering wheel mounted controls, a hand held remote will be in-cluded with every VNS ordered as a factory option. This remote allows passengers access to the system without having to distract the driver.

Premium Sound System Upgrade

  • As a factory or retailer installed option, the V70 T5 and XC will receive the Audio Max system found on the S60. This represents a larger, external amplifier (4x75W vs. 4x50W); the premium speakers found on the S60; and the front door speaker ar-rangement (3 speakers vs. 2). As such, T5s ordered with the Audio Max System will have a different door panel (c/o the S60).

Interior Changes

  • New Exterior Color Offer: Cypress Green (447)
  • Leather Handbrake will feature a visible seam on the top of the lever (as of W150, December 10th Production).
  • Interior Switch for Fuel Lid – An interior switch will be added to the lighting instrument cluster. The switch turns off a diagnostic system that detects evaporation of fuel vapor. It is expected that this switch will help mitigate false reads and incorrect illumination of check engine lights. The fuel lid will automatically relock should the vehicle exceed 4 MPH.
