CLUB RALLIES AND EVENTS |

The main Club event of the year is the National Rally which includes the Best Kept Volvo Competition. This is a family affair held early in the summer. There are also regional rallies which Members are encouraged to support. Non-members are also welcome at many of the Club rallies.
HAYNES MOTOR MUSEUM, SPARKFORD SOMERSET (0ff the A303)
Held in conjunction with 120 Rally
This is a revival of the event which, if a success, will be held annually, at various locations in the southern half of the country. Your support is needed; it is hoped to have the track available for members on the Day. Nearby caravan and camp sites, BandBs will be looked into for those wishing to make a weekend of the event. The organisers will be looking for volunteers to do various tasks, marshals, judges, raffle ticket sellers etc.
Please make a date for your diary and watch for further news in future issues of Driver Magazine.

This year the club annual National Rally and Best Kept Volvo (BKV) competition will be held on Sunday 15th June 2008 at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre. This is just off the A41 near Waddesdon, Buckinghamshire. If you have Internet access you can see their web site at http://www.bucksrailcentre.org/.
A discounted entry fee into the Centre has been arranged for VOC members on the day. The Centre has a lot of interesting things to see, and plenty to keep the children occupied.
The National is a one day function on the Sunday only. There will be no Saturday evening dinner and dance as on previous events. Members wishing to caravan or camp will need to contact the C&C section for details of the closest site.
An updated version of the rules covering entering and the management of the BKV competition will be available soon. I will be making sure that catering arrangements are improved and costs are kept to a minimum. The local Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) will be there to run the reversing and manoeuvering exercises that have always proved popular, and we will have our regular children’s entertainer. I also hope the local Volvo dealer will be able to attend and bring along some display cars.
Fuller details will appear in the club magazine.

The South West section of the club will be holding a holiday rally in Devon from Friday 20th June to Sunday 29th June 2008 departure being on Monday 30th. It will take place at the ‘Fox and Hounds’ Bridestowe, Okehampton, Devon and as this is a commercial site with full facilities, such as hot showers, it is especially suitable for anyone wishing to ‘tent it’.
The site being right on the Western edge of Dartmoor has a great many attractions close by, in fact enough to keep you busy all day and every day. With the moor being right next door there is every possibility of enjoying a walk or two and it is very likely that a guided walk could take place for anyone feeling up to it.
The pub is open all day, has a good pub grub menu so cooking need be one of the least of the concerns about coming. The beer’s not bad either!
Cost is expected to be £6.50 per night or £8.50 if you want an electric hook up. So for a ten day rally the cost of staying for a holiday in Devon could be as low as £65 plus rally fee. Hook ups are limited to just over a dozen so if you are coming and want one you had better book one in advance, it will be first come first served.
Anyone wishing to come is asked to let us know by contacting; Dennis LeWorthy, Pinn Mill, 15, De Brionne Heights, Okehampton, Devon EX20 1WG, and if you want a hook up please enclose a deposit cheque for £10 made payable (for convenience) to Volvo Owners Club. Cheques will be banked only the month before the rally is due to start.
Wetherby Racecourse, Wetherby, West Yorkshire LS22 5EJ
Rally from Friday 25th July to Wednesday 30th July 2008
Best Kept Volvo Competition Sunday 27th July 2008
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY FOR THE BKV
Sunday’s event will commence at 10am (no arrivals before please to allow for setting up) with coffee morning at 11am.
A non-standard class will be set up on the day if there are 2 or more appropriate entrants.
No further entrants will be accepted after 1.30pm to allow for judging & marking.
All members wishing to enter their cars must bring a current VOC membership car with them – this will be asked for upon arrival and if not presented, your car will not be judged. This is due to non-members turning up in the past and trying to enter the competition – yes, it’s true I’m afraid!
The raffle will begin at 4pm approx. followed by the prize giving and finishing about 5pm.
Donations for the raffle are always appreciated.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY FOR THE RALLY
Anyone camping MUST also be a member of the camping & caravanning section of the VOC, which is in addition to your standard VOC membership – you cannot join this on the weekend, so please ensure you complete this well in advance of the Rally, as you will be not be allowed to camp without the necessary paperwork/badge. This is due to DEFRA rules & regs.
Would everyone camping please ring the rally marshals BEFORE Thursday so numbers can ascertained and pitches marked out accordingly.
We would also ask anyone camping not to arrive before 12 noon on the Friday so the marshals can set up first
DIRECTIONS
From the north or south bound A1 take the turning for the racecourse (large brown signs + VOC signs will be out) which is on the B1224 towards York.
DO NOT TAKE THE WETHERBY TOWN CENTRE TURN OFF, AS THIS TAKES YOU THROUGH THE CENTRE AND CAN BE CONGESTED.
